Dear George.
Glad to hear you are doing alright, you should be O.K. if you stick at it. I am going to try + get you some better postcards. I see the Albion are winning the League, I should think they are too good for the second division. I won the 1st round of our tennis, but we have a crack playing this time. When I come home I am going to give Dad a good licking at Snooker, tell him to practice. Cheerio. Eric.
Although not mentioned in this card, the world economy was collapsing at the time. This card is dated 29 October 1929, known as “Black Tuesday”, when shares on Wall street fell by over 11%, following almost a 13% fall the day before (“Black Monday”).
